INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY OF THE AMERICAS
MASTERS PROGRAM IN BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION
The International University of the Americas (UIA) is an independent private non-profit higher education institution established in 1986. It was approved by CONESUP in the Session 076-86 on April 24, 1986. Currently it has a population of more than 6.000 students coming from Costa Rica, United States of America, and several countries in Europe, Asia, and Latin America.
UIA has designed the Master Program in Business Administration. It was approved by CONESUP in the Session 151-90 on March 27, 1990 and it started in 1992. This program is focused on International Business and has been carefully designed to offer students a dynamic and updated academic program.
Vision of the Program
The program has three concentrations: International Management, Finance, and Marketing. Each one is made up of 14 courses, 10 courses are shared by the three concentrations and 4 courses are specific to each concentration.
The program takes a calendar year plus the Graduation Project. Every course takes 3 weeks attending classes from 6:00pm to 9:30pm three sessions a week.
Graduate students with the degree of Licentiate of Business Administration or Public Accountancy can take a shorter program of 8 courses.
For professionals from other disciplines different from Administration or Economy, they must take courses in Economy, Finance, Accountancy, Marketing, and Statistics.
Objectives of the Program:
To promote the development of human resources based on the current demands and needs in national and international environments according to the advances of knowledge and modern technology.
To develop skills in the area of Business Administration and necessary knowledge for decision taking at a management level.
To contribute to cultural exchange with other countries through offering educational opportunities to students and instructors of different nationalities.
To improve moral, ethical, and cultural values that help in the process of professional development.
To provide necessary knowledge that professionals require to manage the environment of international markets.

The teaching staff is made of foreign and national instructors coming from universities abroad and hold Ph.D. degrees from well-known universities in North America, Asia, and Europe. They are professionals with experience in International Business and consulting for important companies in the country and abroad.

Applicants who have been successfully accepted in the Program have the possibility to get complementary financing by the National Institute of Loans for Education(FONAPE). MASTERS PROGRAM IN LAW WITH A CONCENTRATION IN CRIMINAL LAW
Criminal Law in the Costa Rican Judicial System has a close relationship with the Political Constitution because it includes the fundamental rights of the citizens. The general principles of Law must be applied with respect and importance that public guarantees require. The rights of the indicted and the victim must be carefully protected in order to achieve the Justice in the case. These principles are the basis of the Master Program in Law with a Concentration in Criminal Law.
The main purpose is to foment the critical study of legislation and constitutional jurisprudence based on a perspective of what Criminal Law must be respecting fundamental guarantees.
As a result, the graduate in this Master Program is a professional able to work in this field efficciently becuase he has the necessary knowledge to become a true interpreter of the Political Constitution protecting fundamental rights that are the cornerstone of our judicial system.
With the knowledge acquired from a constitucional point of view and the contact with the jurisprudencial development in the Third Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice performs, a graduate Master in this program will guarantee the preservation of fundamental rights efficiently.
A graduate with a concentration in Criminal Lay can use his knowledge to the legitimate protection of rights for an indicted strictly applying constitutional guarantees. Working as a judge prosecutor in the Public Ministry, public defender, or attorney, he can develop the best judicial technique to protect the procedures to defend an indicted.
A graduate in the Masters Program in Law with a Concentration in Criminal Law at the International University of the Americas will be able to:
Structure of the program
This program includes twelve independent modules that are covered in four quarters, one module in directed research and the graduation project after having completed a Licenciate of Law.
Admission procedure
This program is available for students with a degree of Licentiate granted by a higher education institution approved by the Ministry of Education.

Methodology
Discussion topics aim to strengthen the theoretical basis transmitted by the instructions in the different contents and to introduce students to the research field.
The instructor plays the role of a facilitador of learning, and the student participates actively. The interaction instructor-student promotes students to have a critical attitude towards national and international problems to consolidate a judicial conception as a member of a society.
Throughout the course, a promotion of permanent connection between theory and reality through the stimulus of exploring websites to contribute to enrich the materials provided by the instructor as well as reading articles in English.
Every course is taught in five different sessions on Saturday. The regular schedule is from 9:00am to noon and from 1:00pm to 4:00pm. The instructor must be available 10 hours a week through the Internet.
